Socrates2 The life of the Greek philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC) marks such a belittled point in Hesperian thought that standard histories disassociate Greek philosophy into pre-Socratic and post-Socratic periods. Socrates left no writings of his own, and his demeanor has inspired al to the highest degree as many variant interpretations as there cast been interpreters.
